Dear Bill Gates

This is a letter I'd like to send to Bill Gates. Because his reputation has taken a significant hit after it was recently published that Gates met with the disgraced sexual predator (Epstein), this letter offers a chance for Gates to do something positive to help improve his reputation. Will it work or make a difference? Please review in order to decide for yourself.

Dear Bill Gates,

Over the last year or so, your name has sometimes been mentioned in the news about your connection with Jeffrey Epstein. As you know, you met with Epstein about thirty times between 2011-14. This was several years after Epstein had been a convicted sex offender.

Indeed, you appear to be “contrite” about this relationship and admit it was a “huge mistake” to do so. These contacts also impacted your reputation and philanthropic work. Besides being sorry about these meetings with Epstein, perhaps there is a chance for you to boost your overall reputation.

Here's my request: I would like you to take on a project to develop a "fact-based" social media platform. This would include an automatic or semi-automatic fact-checking feature. We won't need to discuss financing; I'm sure you're well equipped in that department. You're well organized, have plenty of coding aptitude, and have the professional connections, so you'd be the perfect person to spearhead this initiative.

You also know coders who would jump at this opportunity to create such a platform. It could be a democracy experiment, as most social media hasn't yet gone in the positive direction.

The platform could have ads, but with your portfolio, you could easily bypass ads without noticing the financial effect. If there was ever a case where you’d want additional support, you could ask some of your colleagues (with the means) to help finance the costs.

Please consider creating a fairer social media platform that’s free for everyone. Think of the goodwill you could create and something that could change your legacy. Why not you? Time is ticking, Mr. Gates.
