European Pics 2025

This blog post is a compilation of photos I took in Munich, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, and then back in Munich in October of 2025. Some commentary is provided.

MUNICH

Getting ready for Oktoberfest in Munich. The weather is cool and rainy, but nothing is preventing me from wearing this outfit to Oktoberfest.

Large pretzels, shared among friends. As the beer flows in the Oktoberfest tents and facilities, pretzel sales skyrocket.

BERLIN

Biking west of the Unter den Linden near the Brandenburg Gate. I biked in Berlin; the safety and amount of bike paths throughout the city are excellent. With fewer cars and bike lanes, you feel a lot more secure biking there.

The Oberbaum Bridge is a double-deck bridge spanning Berlin, Germany's River Spree. It's one of the city's most significant landmarks. This bridge is also featured in the movie The Bourne Supremacy.

East Side Gallery. A section of the Berlin Wall that remains has been used by artists to express their artistic freedom. Searching for freedom.

East Side Gallery. According to Wikipedia, a curriculum vitae is a short written summary of a person's career, qualifications, and education.

Fraternal Kiss between Leonid Brezhnev and Erich Honecker. The fraternal kiss is a special greeting among socialist leaders. Painting was done after a photograph was distributed of these two men sharing a kiss in 1979.

The Topography of Terror is an outdoor and indoor museum of history in Berlin. Read about the Berlin and the People's Community propaganda. During the "people's community," the disabled, Jews, Gypsies, and work-shy individuals were considered abnormal or inferior.

PRAGUE

The St. Peter's Church in central Vienna.

Schönbrunn Palace (in Vienna) was the primary summer residence of the Habsburg rulers.

MUNICH

Spinach, beet, and cheese dumplings in Munich. Outstanding!

Because there's a deposit on beer bottles in Germany, people leave them in public for others to gather to earn pocket change. At first glance, one might think it's littering, but these bottles do indeed get collected by street scavengers.

Bayern Muenchen football club. A dominant team in Germany with plenty of money to spend. Many who live in the Munich area consider themselves Muenchers first and Germans second.
